This course will build on and develop the theoretical and practical drama strategies that were taught on the H2 Drama Theatre course. The aim is for students to develop their awareness of the ways in which drama, with a focus on Directing and the challenges of using different media, can lead to a more critical examination and appreciation of texts.

The first term will focus on Directing as a tool for visualizing and staging texts in such a way as to explore and respond critically to ideas that arise in texts. The second term will focus on an individual, independent performance research project: students will have the opportunity to select a special area of interest and devise, design, perform and reflect upon the processes involved in the relationship between drama and text.

Activities in class will be content driven and the methods in which the content is studied will be wide ranging from teacher centered lecture style classes, to group activities, to individual research and study activities.

Typically the content studied each term will be centered on English in use in plays and drama texts. It will also include aspects of acting, directing and design in the theatre, as well as the history and selected theories of drama and theatre.

Assessment in the class will consist of formative assessment, including class participation, the completion of a blog, a final performance, and homework essays.
